Ray, a broadcast reporter, also complained of the censorship during the editing process. He gave the following example of his experience of covering a story about Gaddafiâs corruption and policy problems, which had caused people to turn against him:
I often reflect on my work. Our report may often not have presented a complete picture because we cut off the parts that condemn and criticise Gaddafi. This is a very common issue in the post-production, which involves [our stance]. For instance, I covered a story about why there were huge changes in recent years from Gaddafiâs iron-wrist control to the large protests in the streets. I wrote about the causes, including Gaddafiâs corruption and policy problems. But not a single sentence from the story went to air. They donât allow it to be broadcast. Things were worse in the later period of the crisis. At the start of our arrival [in Tripoli], our coverage was firsthand and exclusive as they [the editors] tried to preserve the content of our stories. Soon, the coverage was more and more influenced by the foreign policy, and sometimes it is self-censored. The broadcaster has become more cautious because the visual images are self-evident.
